Beautiful beaches and turquoise water - this is how many people imagine their holiday on Djerba. But away from the idyllic holiday resorts on the Tunisian island, there is a serious problem: trash. Whilst the tourist resorts are kept immaculately clean, the streets and beaches far away from the tourist trade show a completely different situation.
To draw attention to this problem, Robinson Club Djerba Bahiya has arranged a special art event. Together with the Hanoverian artist Michael Strogies, a recycling workshop for children has been organised. Strogies combined the depiction of a popular water bird with an important topic: environmental protection. He and children from the Robinson Club collected plastic waste on the beach and worked with them for a week to create an impressive sculpture.
In Germany, the artist has already realised numerous projects with plastic. He noticed that many people know too little about this material and therefore dispose it inappropriately. Instead of just dry facts, Strogies uses creative and playful techniques to turn plastic from a mere raw material into a valuable resource.
Robsponsible: Sustainability at the Robinson Club
This recycling project is just one of many sustainability initiatives at the Robinson Club. Also on Djerba, the Robinson sustainability programme ‘Robsponsible’ is consistently pursued. The protection of the beaches and seas is a central aspect of this programme in order to preserve the natural beauty of the island and maintain it for future generations.
